Shiv Nadar University, Chennai, will start admiing students from April 2021. The university coming up in Kalavakkam, near Chennai, will have world-class facilities in its academic and research blocks, a state-of-the-art cricket stadium, library, sports Centre, auditorium, guesthouse, 24×7 internet access, hostel for students and a faculty housing complex. The university aims to accommodate 4,000 students and 400 faculty members and also offer scholarships to deserving students.
As per a press statement issued, the institute will offer four specialized courses in engineering and commerce. The engineering courses offered here will be different from those at Sri Sivasubramaniya Nadar (SSN) College of Engineering in Chennai. The new university will offer B.Tech in computer science with special focus on Internet of Things and a course in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science. The commerce and management department will have regular courses such as B.Com and B.Com in Professional Accounting. The University also plans to launch a four-year undergraduate course in Business Management from 2022. Speaking at a virtual press conference, Roshni Nadar Malhotra, Chairperson, HCL Technologies, and Trustee, Shiv Nadar Foundation, said, “Shiv Nadar University, Chennai, will be a catalyst for new research, novel discoveries and creation of new forms of expression. It will eventually help create responsible, well-rounded citizens.” Eminent personalities like former governor of the Reserve Bank of India, C. Rangarajan and Turing Award-winning computer scientist and professor at Carnegie Mellon University, Raj Reddy, will act as mentors at the newly launched university.
