Funding information will be listed on the university\u2019s website or in the prospectus, and this is also where you\u2019ll find the relevant contact information should you have any questions about scholarship applications.<\/p><p>In many cases you will not be able to apply for\u00a0university scholarships\u00a0until you have gained acceptance onto a program at the university. If you are relying on a scholarship for funding, please see question five below.<\/p><p>As well as university scholarships (funded by your university), there may also be a range of external scholarships you can apply for, such as government scholarships or scholarships funded by organizations or charities with an invested interest in higher education.<\/p><p>To look for these scholarships you can either use a scholarships search service such as\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.internationalscholarships.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">InternationalScholarships.com<\/a>\u00a0or\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.fastweb.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">FastWeb.com<\/a>, or you can conduct a more thorough search by visiting official consular\/governmental websites for yourself and tracking down any information provided on international student funding. If you have any doubts about a scholarship organization, avoid it. You should never have to pay for a scholarship. If you receive unsolicited offers to assist you in finding scholarships that seem too good to be true, they probably are.<\/p><p>Some phrases that may signal a scholarship scam:<\/p><p>\u201cThis scholarship is guaranteed or your money back.\u201d<\/p><p>\u201cYou can\u2019t get this information anywhere else.\u201d<\/p><p>\u201cWe\u2019ll do all the work.\u201d<\/p><p>\u201cThis scholarship will cost you some money.\u201d<\/p><p>To find out more about scholarship scams, visit the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.finaid.org\/scholarships\/scams.phtml\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">scholarship scam section on finaid.org<\/a>\u00a0for information on how to detect and report scams.\u00a0<\/p><p><a href=\"https:\/\/scholarshipsindia.org\/faqs\/\">What is the Hope Scholarship?<\/a><\/p><p>Rather than a scholarship in the usual sense of the word, the Hope Scholarship is a tax credit, providing a financial benefit to students or their parents\u00a0based on the first $4,000 in postsecondary education expenses paid by the taxpayer during the tax year. Another program called the Lifetime Learning Credit provides a federal income tax credit based on the first $10,000 in postsecondary education expenses paid by the taxpayer during the tax year. You cannot use the Lifetime Learning Credit with the\u00a0Hope Scholarship Tax Credit\u00a0for the same student in the same year, but you can use them for different students\u2019 educational expenses in the same year.
